Cong mining lords question rationale for ban

Upset over the ban on export and transport of iron ore, Congressmen, who are into mining business, have questioned CM B S Yeddyurappa’s wisdom of drawing a comparison between ore exports and setting up of steel plants.
Speaking on their behalf, party MLA Santosh S Lad told TOI that Yeddyurappa should study the revenue earned by the state through iron-ore exports and setting up of steel plants. According to him, mine owners pay several taxes to the state before they export ore.
Mine owners pay taxes __ export duty, forest development tax and rail freight, he pointed out. Besides, only low-grade iron was being exported. For supply to a steel plant, coke had to be imported. “Where is the question of value-addition here as the same illegal permits will be used to set up the plants?” he asked.
They are planning to move the court against the ban.
